At The Network Journal’s 15th Annual “40 Under 40″ Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Times Square, which recognizes 40 African-Americans who are thriving in their respective fields, the DivaGals talked with three prominent women from this year’s class to get their advice on being the best you can be.

Shartia Brantley, Segment Producer, CNBC/NBC Universal
On achieving a successful career:

“If you are passionate about what you do, you’ll be willing to put in the work, make the connections and go the extra mile to be successful. I’m a career-changer. I spent too many years doing what I didn’t like, and I’m finally doing what I love.”

Dr. Samantha F. Butts, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology specializing in Reproductive Endocrinology
On keeping your reproductive system in check:

“Find a doctor that you trust. Get information that’s accurate to make smart choices about your body. And don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.”

Dr. Sydney C. Butts, Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, SUNY Downstate
On protecting your skin:

“As black people, we can’t go out in the sun and not worry about sunscreen. Even with dark skin, you can get cancer, which is rare but happens, and there are the aging effects. Protect your skin by using SPF and follow good nutrition rules for your overall health. “
