Contributor Tsadiqwah Scarville gets BROOKLYN BOUND for the The Nordic Hot Dog Championship held at the Brooklyn Brewery!
Just off the cusps of NY Fashion Week and before that, Restaurant Week in New York City, Brooklyn has been serving up more flavor than your favorite food spot can dish out! Whoever said the way to a man’s heart is through food wasn’t lying! But that doesn’t mean it’s a one-way street ’cause a gal’s gotta eat too, right?
After tasting some of the most incredible Nordic cuisine at the NORTH Food Festival last week, we for sure couldn’t pass up a scrumptious invite to indulge in more Nordic recipes, old-fashioned competition style!
The Nordic Hot Dog Championship, held at the Brooklyn Brewery, showed off an assortment of exquisitely prepared hot dogs from countries like Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and the Faroe Islands, paired perfectly with in-house beer from Brooklyn!
My first stop on this trail of yumminess was the People’s Choice Award winner: The Copenhagen Street Dog from Brooklyn’s own Revolving Dansk. This Danish hot dog isn’t just any rod of meat; it’s a polse. Just picture an extra juicy Danish sausage that’s beech-wood smoked, topped with tomato puree and smashed apples Danish ketchup, Danish remoulade, whole grain Dijon mustard, Tapioca and brown rice flour fried onions, Agurksalat Scandinavian pickles and raw Persian licorice, all guarded by a toasted bun. Two of these babies, washed down with a cold Brooklyn Lager, and thirty minutes in I nearly forgot there were still seven more grubs for me to bite into!
Beating out the the people’s champ by just one vote was the Judges Choice Award winner, LA’s own Chef Neil Fraser for his Arctic Circle Seafood Sausage, a tasteful blend of Norwegian trout, salmon, halibut, and scallops, which are grilled to excellence and smothered with Dijon Aioli and savory sauerkraut!
