In the new Syfy series, which premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on Syfy, the year is 2046, and Ugly Betty alum Grant plays Nolan, a mysterious newcomer who comes into the town of Defiance, where the balance between human and the alien lifeforms who also now inhabit the planet is  on the brink of destruction. Doesn’t leave a lot of time of fashion when you’re trying to keep peace in a post apocalyptic world!

So when we chatted with the charming Australian at the Syfy Upfront  at at Silver Screen Studios in New York City on April 4, who looked mighty dapper in a three-piece John Varvatos suit, we had to ask his secret to looking so spiffy off the set.

“I try to wash the makeup off my face from work, mostly it’s just dirt,” Grant said with a chuckle. “I don’t use soap as a rule. I use cleanser on my face. I’m a metrosexual.”

As for keeping in tip-top condition for Defiance‘s action scenes — on screen and in its video game counterpart, Grant shared this: “Drink plenty of water is a really good tip, for everything in life. And try to get some sleep. And get some bloody exercise. I like to fight… I try not to cut my hands open when I hit the heavy bag.”

Grant, you’d still look great, even with bruised knuckles!

That was the case for Philip Garbarino. The author of The Devil Repents and A Bronx Tale star hadn’t cut his hair in years and was due for a new look. The DivaGals turned to New York City’s Eiji Salon for some serious hair-aphy.

Our Image Gal Samantha von Sperling had a consultation with salon owner Eiji, who explained to complement Philip’s naturally curly locks, it should be cut to a midneck length in layers so he could keep that just rolled out of bed look.

Philip didn’t cry, though we knew he was nervous. Master stylist Kenjiro was charged with the task, and he meticously cut Philip’s strands to perfection.

Samantha used Rusk WIRED Flexible Styling Crème to coax Philip’s natural waves into place… The final verdict? Fabulous! Let us know what you think, below!

It’s Feel Beautiful Week on DivaGalsDaily! We’ve got advice from one of favorite Rupal’s Drag Race stars and beauty tips from a real Syfy beauty. What makes a woman feel beautiful? The man who loves her just the way she is. We kick off our ode to beauty with a chat with Sam Huntington, who stars as tortured werewolf Josh on Syfy’s hit series Being Human. During the network’s upfront at the Museum of Natural History, Sam revealed his secret to style, he and his wife Rachel’s dating rituals  and so what makes her special in his life (and we know that just makes him more beautiful in his wife’s eyes!).

What’s your favorite type of Date Night?
We like food a lot, so it’s dinner and a movie. We really like French food, Italian, Indian – are you seeing a pattern? My favorite day of the year is Cinco de Mayo!

Any other date ideas you love?
I like interesting dates too, but we have two little kids now so the dates are few and far between. That’s why they are treasured beyond belief. Rachel is here with me tonight so this is going to be a great date, and I’m looking forward to it.

Sounds like she’s a lucky woman.
Thanks very much. I don’t think she is. I think I’m a lucky man. She’s the greatest. She’s pretty perfect.

You’re rocking a great look tonight.
I’m one of the only people here not wearing a suit, including the women! I’m wearing a sports coat. I needed a nice blue sports coat, so I went out a bought it. It’s from John Varvatos, and the vest is too.  I decided to mismatch it.

You paired it with jeans. Do you have a favorite brand?
Diesel jeans, always. These are just regular cut, straight leg.

You just finished season two of Being Human, which ended with some crazy cliff-hangers! Do you know if Josh is still alive come season three?
I can almost guarantee that I will be alive. I’m pretty sure. I could be a werewolf ghost, but we haven’t seen that yet, so I’m not even sure that exists. I literally don’t how they are going to spin all the cliffhangers. I don’t want to lead myself astray. But I’m certain whatever it is, it will be unreal.
