Hello Divas! As you know, our EIC is crazy over musicals, so she’s absolutely giddy that FOX has announced who’s playing who in the Tony award-winning musical RENT.

Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner Brandon Victor Dixon, who we last saw in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, is playing computer scientist Tom Collins. Actress Kiersey Clemons from the movie Dope has been cast as lawyer Joanne Jefferson. Singer/songwriter Jordan Fisher, the 2017 winner of Dancing with the Stars, takes on the role of filmmaker Mark Cohen. Actress Vanessa Hudgens, who we saw in Fox’s own Grease: Live, will play actress and activist Maureen Johnson.

The rest of the cast includes newcomer and singer/songwriter Brennin Hunt (Roger), R&B/Pop superstar Mario (Benjamin, the role made famous by Taye Diggs); recording artist Tinashe (Mimi) and drag performer Valentina (Angel). Keala Settle from The Greatest Showman will perform the iconic solo in “Seasons of Love.”

This groundbreaking, Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is a re-imagining of Puccini ’s opera La Bohème and set in New York City’s gritty East Village in the nineties. It tells the unforgettable story of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams during a time of social and political turmoil. Winner of four Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize, it comes from the brilliant mind of the late writer/composer Jonathan Larson.

RENT live airs on January 27, 2019, on FOX. “Like” RENT on Facebook at RENTonFOX. Follow the series on Twitter @RENTonFOXand join the conversation using #RENT. See photos and videos on Instagram by following RENTonFOX.
