Hello my lovely Divas! Have you ever been in a rut and decided – I’m due a major change! I know that feeling all too well. With a New Year starting, I felt that my life needed to take a new path. New beginnings blossom the best version of yourself!
So how does one reinvent themselves, from head to toe? For me, it was about changing several things – some by choice, some out of necessity. Check out what I did and see what you can use to transform yourself, from the inside out.
My Workouts. I signed up for a half-marathon last year. I was so excited to get in the best shape in my life for the 13-mile run. I started my training routine, running a few miles each day, even though I was having some pain in my right knee. One day I ran, came home and noticed that my kneecap had swelled up to twice its size. Terrified, I rushed to the doctor – only to learn that I had swelling in the kneecap from a meniscus tear and degeneration – a marathon was not in my cards. I was so disappointed – but knew that I couldn’t deny myself my workouts, I would just have to find a new discipline. Enter Swimming. Swimming puts the body through an all-over workout, incorporating all major muscle groups that work against resistance in EVERY direction. I figured it wouldn’t be that hard since I had been running and biking on the regular. I was in for a surprise. I could barely catch my breath doing one lap across the pool. And after 20 minutes of swimming, I was pooped. But what I quickly realized is that swimming was working my muscles in ways I had never explored before – making my body stronger and more efficient in ways I could never imagine.
Delaina’s Tip: Try a new workout regime, be it Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing or Swimming. Try taking your body in a new direction and reap the benefits.
My Food. I’ve always tried to eat healthy food but sometimes staying on point is a challenge. So I decided that for one week, I would try one diet plan and stick with it. After doing a ton of research, I decided the Mediterranean Diet was the one for me. Why? The Mediterranean Diet consists of primarily plant-based foods, such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts. It promotes fish over meats, using olive oil and herbs as staples and allows for red wine! This is the way I love to eat, why not commit to it? I found this 7-Day Mediterranean Diet plan that clocked in at a modest 1200 calories and gave myself permission to enjoy one glass of vino, for about 1350 calories a day. The result? I felt satiated and satisfied because it was so easy and fun to stick to. This really isn’t a diet – it’s a healthy way of life! I’m also using a few supplements, like certified Chaste Tree Berry from Gaia, which can help with your menstrual cycle health.
Delaina’s Tip: You’re only going to follow a diet if you like what you’re eating, can obtain it easily and maintain what’s on the menu. Find an eating plan that makes you feel satisfied and you’ll stick to it for a lifetime. And remember to DRINK WATER.
My Skin. I’m all about keeping my skin clear and youthful. I’ve got a lot of products, but I find that those are the purest suit my sensitive and somewhat irrational skin best. Recently, while on my incredible trek to Galena Territory, I was introduced to the Veridatta Skincare line. Considered a “Daily Detox” for your skin, these products are anti-aging, acne-fighting and mood enhancing. I do love the fresh clean smell of the Sea Foam cleanser and the Skin Tight Toner. I’m a busty gal, and I’ll admit my decolletage is often on display. I like using various products to gently exfoliate my skin there. But I also swear by my night bra, which helps keep the gals in place while I sleep, slowing down the pull of gravity (and the 50 pushups I do before bed doesn’t hurt either).
Delaina’s Tip: When it comes to skincare, don’t skimp. Invest in quality products that can revitalize your skin. Remember, a little goes a long way. And don’t forget those pushups!
My Hair. Okay, I know you’ve been waiting for this one! As many of you know, I had hair restoration with Bosley in 2017. The change has been astonishing – I even shot an infomercial about it! Not having hair can affect your confidence, so I was so glad to go through this experience and get it back. In 2018, I decided that I needed to allow my hair growth to start on an even playing field – so I cut it all off! It was freeing for sure, but I was so scared how I would present my beauty – or judged by others – without hair. Well, the response has been overwhelming from people who have told me I’ve never looked better, younger or more striking. I use hair oils daily to massage my scalp, especially in the still hair sparse areas on my head. One of my secrets is to mix a few drops of essential oils into my Wild Growth Hair Oil to cut down on its medicinal smell. Peppermint essential oil is a vasodilator, and vasodilators improve blood flow. By increasing circulation with a vasodilator like peppermint, it could potentially improve hair growth and prevent some hair loss.
I’m also enjoying experimenting with new hair products – Mixed Chicks offers a full line of curly hair products to try and love!
Delaina’s Tip: Hair doesn’t define us – so don’t be afraid to try something radical. Try a new style and showcase it with all your fave beauty hacks: strong brows, lashes out to there, that bold lip, to truly play up your gorgeous features. Remember, you’re a strong, independent woman who needs validation from no one – except your Divalicious self!
