COMMUNE. Lawrence Adjah, creator and founder of “Our Family Dinner,” has one over all mission — to bring complete strangers together and turn them into family, one dinner at a time! An opportunity for young professionals to get together and connect while they commune, it’s a true family experience.
I had the chance to be a part of the family at hip STK house in West Hollywood – the L.A. Family Dinner just celebrated two years in the city. Lawrence makes it his duty to call each person and make them feel welcomed before the dinner. We were greeted with a hug and a smile from two of the dinner’s co-hosts. We also received complimentary cocktails sponsored by Zacapa rum, and a delightful menu of food cooked to perfection.
Each dinner is based on an oldie but goodie song. Ours was “Saturday Love” by Cherrelle and Alexander O’Neal as we connected with like-minded individuals. Picture networking with new people without the fancy smancy resumes and business cards, but just simply getting to know them in a casual manner. It’s that old-fashioned way of making friends.
Since its inception, the dinner has grown from its humble beginnings in New York City and has gone internationally to Africa, Jamaica and London. Dinners happen every six months to provide a chance for Family members to share new and exciting stories. I even got the chance to start #BrunchGang; a group of us from the event will now be having brunch throughout L.A. once a month. If you’re reading this, hey #BrunchGang!
I truly enjoyed the over-all concept of this gathering and cannot wait to go back. See You in six months Family
