GAL APPROVED Weekend Edition: and Political Animals!By Delaina Dixon | July 13, 2012 | Entertainment, Gal Approved
WATCH. One thing that’s super hot right now is our presidential campaign, which sets the perfect backdrop for USA Network’s limited series Political Animals. The story revolves around the Hammonds, one of our nation’s royal political families. Husband Bud is a former president whose wife Elaine — who also ran for the top office — divorced him after one too many of his infidelities. She now works as secretary of state, while keeping an eye on “perfect” son Doug who is about to be married, and his twin, bad boy T.J., the first openly gay child to grow up in the White House. What’s great about this series is its strong line-up of female characters. Sigourney Weaver plays Elaine, who takes BS from nobody. It’s a strong and emotional performance from the veteran actress. Carla Gugino is the rising reporter determined to capture the real story behind Elaine’s unforgivable drive. Ellen Burstyn plays Elaine’s mom, and being over 70, she can say and do whatever she damn well pleases. The story offers up a lot of secrets and backstabs and sex – just as you would expect from any real-life national scandal. Political Animals premieres Sunday, July 15 at 10 p.m. on USA Network.
