GAL APPROVED Weekend: Hot Cops, Cool Jewels, Sake and A Holiday To Remember!By Delaina Dixon | November 15, 2013 | Entertainment, Gal Approved
SEE. It’s been 15 years since we got a chance to catch up with the gang from The Best Man, and boy did we have questions. Luckily, we now have The Best Man Holiday, where Lance (Morris Chestnut) and his wife have decided to host all their friends at their home to celebrate the Christmas season. After more than a decade engrossed in their own personal stories, they’ve all had successes and failures, and dealt with life’s tragedies and losses with dignity. Stevie Wonder‘s classic “As,” sung by Marsha Ambrosius and Anthony Hamilton, becomes the signature song on the movie’s soundtrack, as the lyrics rings true for this group of close-knit friends revisiting past loves and unresolved issues. Bring your tissues; there are some very bittersweet moments. It’s a group of friends that you love to watch as they fumble, fight, love and forgive — a life lesson done very well. Hats off to writer/director Malcolm D. Lee who has given us all a reason to want to catch up with this welcomed group. Major stand out is Morris — his body could easily win a People’s Choice Award! Note to Hollywood: Please cast this man in an action film! Film currently playing nationwide.
TASTE. Hot, cold, filtered or unfiltered, and that it comes from rice is about all Image Gal knew about sake. After two seminars by sake samurai Timothy Sullivan and more sips than I can count later at the Sake and the City event in New York City, I had a whole new appreciation for the drink. Just learning about all the love and care that goes into this traditional Japanese beverage blew my mind. I wish there had been even more Japanese fair to go with all the wondrous liquid. My favorite of all the sakes presented was Shockikubai Mio, a light 7 percent alcohol sparkling sake, which was floral, slightly sweet and very drinkable.
WEAR. Chloe and Isabel make fashion forward statement necklaces, earrings and bracelets that are young and fresh but still have that estate jewelry look. The spring collection has shades of green and blue that will pop on all your favorite tops and dresses, just check them out on our Editor in Chief Diva Delaina Dixon on The Gossip Table! They’re great for gifting, and a cool way to make a little extra cash by becoming a Chloe and Isabel sales rep.
WATCH. At the New York Television Festival, we got a sneak peek of the new action series Almost Human starring Michael Ealy, who plays an android cop paired with a disgruntled human – and we’re not giving anything else away. Our only complaint? That Michael wasn’t at the screening. Seeing him would have made our buttons light up! Catch the Almost Human two-night premiere beginning Sunday, November 17 at 8 pm on FOX.
