Who Is Josh Radnor’s Honoring With His Character on NBC’s Rise? We Know!By Delaina Dixon | March 7, 2018 | Entertainment
We’re too excited for NBC’s newest series Rise, which premieres next week. We got the scoop on why it’s gonna be sooo good from series star Josh Radnor (Yes, that IS Ted from How I Met Your Mother!) and who he’s dedicating his character to.
Josh plays Lou Mazzuchelli, a teacher at Stanton High School, where football is king. Seeing a chance to really make a difference in this educational institution, Lou takes over the school’s lackluster theatre department, galvanizing not only the faculty and students but the entire working-class town.
“The show is about a musical that we’re putting on. I’ve always loved [Rise executive producer] Jason Katims,” Josh shared with the DivaGals. “I think he’s a terrific, smart and sincere kind of writer and he wanted me to play this role. I love the idea and the book it’s based on. I started acting in a high school theater department, so I get to revisit that in another perspective. I like being on a show where teachers are heroic and inspiring.”
Josh can still recall the teachers that inspired him to pursue his theatrical dreams. “I had many in the theater and other areas. Two weeks ago went to a memorial for my favorite theater professor in college. She was beautiful human being, teacher and director. It’s great to be able to honor some of the teachers I’ve had through this show.”
Rise premieres Tuesday, March 13 at 10 p.m. on NBC. Rosie Perez also stars.
