Salt-N-Pepa are coming to our TV screens! The legendary hip-hop duo has joined forces with Lifetime Network to create a two-night biopic of their incredible careers and friendship, slated to air on the network in 2020! At the A+E Network 2019 Upfront, we asked the ladies what has been the secret to their 30-plus year friendship. That’s when Pepa got candid.

“We broke up for a long period of time and got back together,” shares Cheryl James, a.k.a Salt. “But to me what we both learned is communication. [Pepa] always says itΓÇÖs like a marriage.”

Pepa agreed. “The bottom line is that communication is the key to any successful relationship,” declared Sandra Denton, a.k.a Pepa. “Once you realize that it’s worth working on. We were friends first before the business and so we’ve been through all the ups and downs.”

Salt admitted that was something she resisted at first. “Then I thought, it is something you have to work on. So we put in the effort: we got counseling we get on the phone when things get a little rough and we’ll have hour-long conversations.”

Pepa summed it up. “It’s just sister love still and you got to stay in the grind. That’s where we are today and to be able to tell our story is just amazing.”

The ladies also revealed who they would love to play their younger selves in the movie: their respective daughters: Salt’s daughter Corin and Pepa’s daughter Egypt. They both expressed it would be so much fun to see their offspring wearing the clothes they wore back in the day.
