Hey Divas! Now we know you’ve been washing your face since you were a little kid, so you would think that you have got the hang of it, right? If you’ve just been going for a quick splash of water and a little bit of soap, you’re probably not doing everything you can to prevent excessive dryness, oily skin or even acne breakouts, ick!

Making a few simple changes to your face washing routine can really end up making all the difference! Read below for our top tips!

Start with Cleansing. There’s no single face wash that is perfectly suited to everybody, so you can experiment with a few different products until you find one that does the job. Of course, we have suggestions to put you on the right track! We’re loving the French line Yon Ka. This luxurious skincare brand has formulated products designed to give you the best skin, no matter what age range you’re in.

We love the Micellar Cleansing Water which allows you to clear your skin of makeup and debris without water. The Invigorating Mist is a normal to oily skin toner that is the perfect post-flying spritz. Yon Ka also offers concentrated boosters that can be added to any skin care routine for added hydration, lift and defense. Yon Ka’s Phyto-Contour will combat fine lines around the eyes as well as puffiness and dark circles.

Maybe you’re more of a DIY gal? Issues like visible sebaceous glands, known as fordyce spots, can be treated and prevented with these DIY remedies. Make sure your cleanser is gentle on your skin without causing redness or rashes.

Stick to a Routine. For your average person, washing your face once or twice a day should be enough — unless there are any exceptional circumstances or particular advice that you have been given by your dermatologist. While missing out on a day of face washing isn’t a cardinal sin, it is still better that you don’t allow old makeup or sunscreen to sit around on your face for too long. We’re loving our new Kiehl’s Skin Care Starter Kit that gives us everything we need in one small travel-friendly kit to get great skin in 28 days.

Don’t Use Excessively Hot Water. A lot of people make the mistake of washing their face in water that is too hot. While both icy-cold and lukewarm water have their individual benefits, water that is excessively hot can strip away oils from the skin too quickly.

Don’t Over Exfoliate. While exfoliating your skin can have its benefits, you should avoid doing this too often. A general rule should be to do this no more than once or twice a week. Working a good amount of exfoliation into your skin care routine can increase your circulation for a healthy glow and remove dead skin cells. Ready to DIY again? Try something you already have in your home … plain old sugar!

Pat Yourself Dry. Reaching for the nearest used towel to rub all over your face to get dry? All that tugging can encourage premature lines and wrinkles. Rather than doing that, use a gentle, clean cloth to pat your skin dry. This method will encourage a little moisture to remain on your skin to be sealed in by your fave moisturizer.

Adapt to The Weather. Yes, your skin care routine should change according to the weather. In the summer, you may want to switch to lighter moisturizing since it’s so hot outside, but make sure it still has an SPF factor to ensure you have some sort of protection from the damages that the sun. We love. And when fall and winter roll around again, it is important that you avoid over cleansing and over drying in that indoor overheated, recirculated air which can dry out your skin. Rather than washing your face excessively, it is important to introduce a more emollient moisturizer that can combat the drier temperatures.
