‘Tis the season of romantic picnics with your special someone, right? But it just doesn’t have that same je ne sais quoi when your man shows up with a basketful of brewskies.

This summer, the DivaGals have you covered. We talked to wine expert Jen Amis of SpitBucket.com to get some easy breezy wine choices that won’t steer you or your man wrong. That’s right, this summer, you may get him to drink out of something other than a beer bottle!

2008 Purple Cowboy Trail Boss Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles (2008). It’s delicious plum and macerated cherry notes hit you first with this Cabernets, followed by vanilla and a hint of chocolate. Screams for a rack of ribs or a burger, which you know your man will love.

Upstart Crow Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (2008). Hints of blackberry and cinnamon as well as cassis and cedar create one of the most versatile Cabernets out there. You’ll both think it’s delicious with a roasted chicken and potatoes, or grilled lamb kebabs.

Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato. This wine conjures up images of wild flowers and tastes of just picked nectarines. He’ll love it with take-out Thai or a simple chicken salad.

Middle Sister Drama Queen Pinot Grigio. This wine carries beautiful notes of apple and light citrus, and is a crisp and easy wine to drink. Staying close to home? This is the perfect balcony or porch aperitif. Pair it with a fruit and cheese plate that includes rich cheeses such as triple cream, époisse or boursin (and throw in some Swiss and American for him!).

PromisQous White. A rich blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Gewurtztraminer, the aroma of succulent melon is enhanced with hints of ripe peach. He’ll ask for a second glass when it’s served with fish tacos and grilled cheese sandwiches, and if he’s lucky, a third with omelettes the morning after!
