Chris Harrison Says Don’t Just Watch ABC’s The Bachelor for the Black Girls!By Delaina Dixon | March 4, 2013 | Entertainment
TV DivaGal and Patty On Site have both been pretty vocal about this season of The Bachelor, which for the first time included four women of a chocolate hue – among other women of color — in the mix. We wanted to share our thoughts with host Chris Harrison, but he had his own response to the situation.
“I’m incredibly sorry that that is the reason that anybody would watch our show. Whether we have a person of color or not would be a horrible reason for anybody to watch a show or not watch a show,” Chris responded passionately to Patty On Site.
Ah Chris, we understand your passion. But we need you to understand ours. Part of the fun of watching The Bachelor is believing gals like ourselves can find love under the most extraordinary circumstances. Seeing women who look like us turns it into a more personal experience. We can believe that love is truly colorblind, and what a wonderful concept to invest in.
Chris does believe that The Bachelor tries to speak to all its viewers. “I’d hope there were women across the board that you felt represented women well … There’s a lot of strong ones, and so the good news is I have no say in the casting as far as who comes on as bachelors and bachelorettes but I know that you know there were a lot of great women on the show,” he shared.
“Some of them were of color … I believe Catherine [Giudici] is Filipino. I believe we kind of had a mix, you know a good mix. And we usually do.”
You’re on your way, Bachelor franchise. Keep up the good work.
