THE CW TV Press Tour Summer ’18: All American Is A True Story!By Delaina Dixon | August 6, 2018 | Entertainment
Dolphins linebacker Spencer Paysinger has a new gig. He’s a producer/consultant on The CW’s upcoming series All American. This new drama follows the life of an exceptional high school football star from South Central who is recruited to play at Beverly Hills High.
Ok, so it’s not Spencer’s real-life play-by-play of his rise from South Central to Super Bowl XLVI champion. But it is inspired by his experiences of attending the posh high school address.
“I started to think what passion could rise out of football,” Spencer shared at the All American Press Tour panel about his transition from the football field to the writer’s room. His thought for a show based on his experiences led to a phone call and a meeting and before Spencer knew it, his idea became a series.
The character Spencer, played by British actor Daniel Eza, has a new team, and a new posh address (he’s living with his coach, played by Taye Diggs). But we all know how challenging life can get when you’re a newcomer in Beverly Hills (we’re looking at you 90210!).
“What the writers have wonderfully done on this show is to create a situation is balanced, the beauty and danger of life in both worlds,” says series producer Rob Hardy. “That’s how we discover identity. The high school world and sports arena allow us to define ourselves in this community.”
That, and $100K cars in a high school parking lot. All American premieres Wednesday, Oct. 10 on The CW.
