Hey Divas — Mark your calendar app! This Thursday The Wiz LIVE! airs on NBC, and it’s one musical spectacular not to be missed!

Shanice Williams, a 19-year-old star in the making, beat out hundreds in an open call audition for the coveted role of Dorothy in this live musical spectacular, which is directed by Kenny Leon (who directed Lifetime’s African-American version of Steel Magnolias). So who’s playing her Auntie Em? Stephanie Mills, who originated the role of Dorothy on Broadway more than 40 years ago!

With the original Dorothy just inches away, the advice must be free flowing, right? “No, I give her love, she got this,” Stephanie exclaims to The DivaGals. “She’s going to be a super duper uber star.”

Of course, that doesn’t stop Shanice from asking for it! “If she comes to me and asks me, ‘how did you do this for so long; what did you do,’ then I tell her,” Stephanie shares. Actually, Stephanie did have one piece of important advice for the new Dorothy. ‘I tell her the 11 o’clock number is EVERY number!”

Stephanie also schooled us on why The Wiz is such a timeless tale. “It’s about family, it’s about love,” she explains. “Everyone needs courage. At times everyone may not feel smart enough or as compassionate as he or she should be, it’s a scenario that relates to every aspect of life. You’re looking for something out there, and all the time it’s right inside of you. ”

We can’t think of a better way to start off the week! Catch The Wiz Live! this Thursday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
