
History was made at the 86th Academy Awards as 12 Years a Slave took Best Picture.
The movie, which depicts a true account of slavery in the 1800s, also earned newcomer Lupita Nyong’o the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Adapted Screenplay for John Ridley. Director Steve McQueen did not take home that Oscar, that honor went to Gravity director Alfonso Cuar├│n.
