Summer is right around the corner, and you and your guy are racking your brain for a cool new vacation spot you can check off your list of places to see (before you die).

Well, according to Nurse Jackie‘s newest star Gbenga Akinnagbe, Lagos, Nigeria in Africa, should be on the top of your list.

Born in Washington, D.C. and raised by Nigerian parents, Gbenga visited his native homeland for the first time this past December. “It’s an amazing place,” he declares.

So what will you do when you get there? In town, you can visit Oba’s Palace, the Nigerian National Museum and Shrine of Fela, an ode to the famed musician and composer.

Of course you’ll want to try some of the local dishes like cooked yams, jollof rice and Gbegiri (a bean-based stew).

Gbenga suggests taking a trip to Eso Alo Island. “You take a boat from the mainland for 25 minutes, dipping in and out of some really dirty water until you get to the island, which is beautiful,” he shares.

When you’re ready to rest your head, check into the Sheraton Lagos Hotel. Located close to the airport, the 341 guest room and suite lodgings offer superior comfort (and security) that will make you feel like you’re home. There is a swimming pool, fitness center and outdoor restaurant on the premises, as well as amenities like WiFi and LCD screens. (So you can watch the Nigerian version of Sesame Street, Sesame Square, debuting May 21.)

Indeed, “Africa gets into you system, after you leave you’re always thinking about it,” Gbenga says. ” I think about getting back there as often as I can.”

And now so are we Gbenga.

Catch Gbenga on Nurse Jackie Mondays at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
