ABC UPFRONT 2018 – Eva Longoria’s Soapy New Drama. Nathan Fillion Back on ABC!
By Delaina Dixon | May 16, 2018 | EntertainmentLet’s talk about the real reason we tune into the ABC Upfront – to see #WBWD Jimmy Kimmel eviscerate┬áhis own network (if only we could all do that to all our bosses!). And he didn’t disappoint this year ΓÇô but weΓÇÖll get to that.
ABC is grinning from ear to ear as it has the no. 1 new drama, our fave The Good Doctor, the no. 1 new-ish comedy Roseanne and no. 1 new-ish reality series, rebooted American Idol. And since ABC hasnΓÇÖt had a no. 1 show in 24 YEARS, they were making their enthusiasm real clear.
ABC’s little sister Freeform is dedicated to presenting authentic, engaging original content for millennials – and FYI, all their shows are executive produced by women! Building on the success of Grown-ish, creator Kenya Barris is bringing Besties to the network, which will examine class and relationships. We can’t wait for Life-Size 2, starring Tyra Banks as the doll that comes to life.
Also coming to the network is MarvelΓÇÖs Cloak & Dagger. Two teens, joined by a childhood┬átragedy, learn of┬átheir┬ásupernatural┬ápowers – and how they must work together. Aubrey Joseph co-headlines the new series.
Back at ABC, where network entertainment president Channing Dungey looked resplendent in red, shared that TGIF is returning and Fresh Off the Boat and Speechless will anchor the night.
Dancing With the Stars is getting a pint-size version with DWTS Junior. And The Goldbergs gets its spin-off, Schooled, focusing on the lives of the teachers of William Penn Academy ΓÇô led by Principal Glascott (Tim Meadows).
Ok, now all about Jimmy. First, he thanked everyone for the well wishes for his son, who conquered cancer and just turned one. And then he talked smack about Shonda Rimes for leaving ABC for Netflix (ΓÇ£rot in hellΓÇ¥); talked about ABC getting its new tagline ΓÇ£Forward TogetherΓÇ¥ from a Hillary Clinton yard sale; and how FOX couldnΓÇÖt even make a deal with the devil to get a hit from last season (think Lucifer and The Exorcist ΓÇô both cancelled). He also talked about ABCΓÇÖs new dating reality series The Proposal ΓÇô where women compete to be paired with a man they never met ΓÇô is the bachelor, without the bachelor. I mean, who will they rat out other girls too?
Now, shows you have to check on out ABC this upcoming season.
