“A child born of mixed race would be considered less than human. Pitiable. Impure. Monstrous.”
This quote opens the first season of Blue Eye Samurai, one of the electric adult animated series on Netflix streaming. Naturally, its segment attracted the biggest wave of cheers at the 2025 Anime NYC Netflix presentation.

The presentation rolled out an exclusive first look video with the married creators and executive producers, Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, and action director Jane Wu. The violent Edo-steeped show follows a vengeful samurai, Mizu (Maya Erskine), a woman disguised as a man, to exact revenge on the white men who possibly fathered her and thus left her to a life of misery. Season 2 won’t be any less bloody. Noizumi teased the fact that some known characters that seemed to have died are not dead at all.
The season 2 footage of Blue-Eyed Samurai, currently in production, illustrates Mizu infiltrating a fortress among an army of men as fire rains down upon them. Green and Wu emerged onto the stage to discuss, but not reveal much about, Mizu’s exploration of an alien place called “London.” Reportedly, this wasn’t a jest; the teleprompter showed them a list of events not to talk about.
The cartoon itself was conceived out of Noizumi’s fascination with her mixed-race daughter’s blue eyes. Green said, “Noizumi went to therapy to figure out why she was so obsessed with her daughter’s blue eyes.” In fact, that very daughter, who voiced the younger Mizu, was among the Anime NYC audience.
The panel also presented sneak peeks of Sakamoto Days, Record of Ragnarok III, Devil May Cry and one new show, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
This was a new Anime NYC. This convention added one more day, augmenting a once three-day event into a four-day one. It’s been a raucous time.
