TV DIVAGAL: Boys Will Be Boys, Even If You’re A SharkBy Delaina Dixon | August 8, 2009 | Entertainment
On Shark Tank, ABC’s new reality series, being the female mogul handing out loads of dough means not only taking on aspiring entrepreneurs, but the men sting next to you as well.
At the TCA panel for the series, the guys acted like they were hanging out in the boys’ locker room: stinky!
They skipped over real estate goddess Barbara Corcoran, barely giving her a chance to answer until she stuck her stilettos down.
That’s not the way to treat a Diva!
This wasn’t the first time. “Every time I spoke up during production, they talked right over me, again and again,” Barbara confessed to the TV Divagal.
“I finally said, ‘Hold it right there, handsome, and they all shut up,’ because they all think it’s them.”
That’s just one way Barbara made her point known while shooting the series.
“If I said, ‘Hey, that’s brilliant,’ they’d stop to hear more about how brilliant they are,” she laughed.
“These are all the little tricks women have to use in America when you’re the only gal on the floor.”
Barbara is gonna break a whole bunch more past that glass ceiling.
“Eight out of the 11 businesses I bought are women-owned,” she revealed.
“A lot of those products the men didn’t get. An elephant thermometer that squeezes medicine into your child’s mouth? They thought that was crazy. But not one guy on that panel ever had to give their kid medicine.”
While the products were important, Barbara knows what she was really investing in.
“More than half the people we saw were women. The minute I saw the drive and that fire in a woman’s belly, I was half-looking at her product because I knew I was looking at someone like myself with a desire to succeed.”
A true Diva supports her own!
Shark Tank premieres Sunday, Aug. 9 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
