Celebrate Christmas Day With Carol’s Daughter And The Color PurpleBy Delaina Dixon | December 25, 2023 | Entertainment
Alice Walker‘s iconic novel The Color Purple has once again blossomed! This vibrant reimagining brings the 2005 Broadway musical to the silver screen, under the direction of Blitz Bazawule. Told through a stunning kaleidoscope of cinematic shots, lively dance sequences and Golden Globe-nominated performances, the story of Celie and her transformation from a voiceless victim of abuse to a woman discovering her power and joy is told through a dazzling lens of song, dance and dazzling color.
TV DivaGal attended Carol’s Daughter x The Color Purple: A Bold New Take on the Beloved Classic screening at the Alamo Drafthosue Cinema, Downtown Brooklyn.
While enjoying drinks and a meal, I watched this new telling of the classic story unfold.
Through the rhythms of gospel, blues and R&B, Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks—both nominated for Golden Globes—and Taraji P. Henson shine, supported by a stellar cast that includes Colman Domingo, Halle Bailey and Aunjanue Ellis.
This new film still delves into the novel’s darker themes of racism, sexism and domestic violence. But it also celebrates the indomitable spirit of women who find solace and strength in their sisterhood. Celie’s journey, interwoven with the lives of Shug, Nettie and Sofia, becomes a testament to the transformative power of love, friendship and ultimately, self-acceptance.
The Color Purple is a soulful symphony of stories and songs, a testament to the enduring power of resilience and a dazzling tribute to Walker’s timeless masterpiece.
