Need A New Fish Pairing? Discover Nizza Wine D.O.C.G.!By Maureen Martin | November 8, 2019 | Food Fashion Style
This week we discovered the joy of Nizza Wines. It is Piedmont’s most produced and best rated red wine in Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100.
For Nizza, only vineyards with the best exposures (South) are used: the blend is 100 percent Barbera and the yield is among the lowest in Italy. It’s a premium wine that ranges in price point from $30-$50. The mineral content of the soil and the sunny days and cool nights produce a wine that is delightful. My top three were Coppo 2016, Cascina Lana 2011 and L’Armangia.
While you may think that red wine is best paired with red meats or pasta, with a Nizza food pairing most often is fish. “Because it is fresh and fruity, the Barbera is good with cod, swordfish and any fatty fish.” I enjoyed a Coppo with a lovely grilled Salmon served by Del Posto’s excellent chef.
