Our resident Diva Boys, Chris and Destin, do Sundance in 24 hours… and live to tell about the tale!

What better place to swing through on our way to Hollywood from the slopes of Jackson Hole, Wyo., than Sundance Film Festival 2012?

After a long day of traveling away from the Grand Tetons, we climbed into the Hotel Monaco, a fabulous oasis of a hotel in downtown Salt Lake. We (and our two dogs!) were treated like royals. Immediately we downloaded our “Sundance mobile app” with our complimentary wireless in our suite, and off we went trying to get tickets to whatever film we could get into. We had two days to conquer the schedule.

Typically, film goers register months in advance for Sundance films and then receive a lottery to get a ticket. There are a few cities where movies of all types (documentaries, horror, drama, comedies, etc.) are shown, though most of the action takes place in the chic, mountain town of Park City, where about 10 theaters throughout the day are featuring the many films Sundance has to offer. Plus lots of bars, restaurants, clubs and specialty shopping abound amidst the celebrities and snowflakes.

We decided to take our chances and show up at the theaters we wanted. WeΓÇÖd have to do the “Waitlist” — something everyone at Sundance knows about. Our first night we looked at all our choices and based on the buzz and the popularity, we chose a film from the category “Park City at Midnight” described as this: “Raucous, rowdy, and rebellious; softies need not enter. Park City at Midnight is for the hard-core film lovers who get so engrossed in a cinematic experience they don’t even notice it’s tomorrow. From horror flicks to comedies to works that defy any genre, these unruly films will keep you edge-seated and wide awake.” A Perfect description for us!

Not only did we just show up at Tower Theatre, a wonderful old time movie theater, with no tickets or waitlist status, but we got in ten minutes prior to showtime and got the best seats in the house, yeah!

Our first pick was Black Rock, a chickflick ΓǪ not, starring Kate Bosworth, Lake Bell and Katie Aselton, it was quite a shocker! We knew it was going to be intense, but weren’t expecting such a thrill ride. The girls start off like it’s a cutesy weekend on an isolated bucolic island off the coast of Maine. They’ve planned a fun weekend of drinking, giggling, sharing and camping ΓǪ alone. Or are they? Things take a very different and violent turn and the weekend turns out to be one of survival and escape, and even Death ΓǪ Yikes! We were on the edge of our seats the entire 90 minutes!

We decided to call it a night and get to Park City in the morning, so we could hit the the Sorel Boots/Fresh/VEVO Powerstation Guest Suite on Main Street fresh and ready the next morning!

Tune in Wednesday for Part II of Diva Guys SUNDANCE ADVENTURE!
