Did you happen to catch Loretta Devine signing on the latest episode of The Client List? The star was making beautiful music all weekend on stage on the West Coast ΓÇô and our Our Desert Springs correspondent Pam Price was there to catch every note!
Loretta and Naturi Naughton captivated an audience of 1100 at The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, Calif. in the outrageously popular “One Night Only” event produced by Michael Childers on April 24. Both were a hit, in more ways than one.
You might say it was a perfect fit — despite the performers being 35 years apart in age┬á and philanthropically speaking — as the Broadway alums were performing at a benefit produced by Michael on behalf of Jewish Family Services of the Desert (JFS), now in its sixth season. All of the performers volunteer their time and talent for “One Night Only,” attracting a crowd quite the opposite of the young ones at Coachella, which wrapped up another successful season with record-breaking crowds. The desert is a party paradise for all ages, obviously.
For the record, Loretta originated the role of Lorrell in the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, and currently gives Jennifer Love Hewitt the business (literally!) on the Lifetime series The Client List. Her stage duo Naturi did several years playing little Inez in Hairspray, and also did a stint on List.
Loretta and Naturi wowed the audience with a rendition of “Endless Love.” Then it was on to “Last Dance,” followed by the female classic anthem “ItΓÇÖs Raining Men” with an arrangement by John McDaniel. When the ΓÇ£menΓÇ¥ came out dancing in yellow slickers, it was obvious: These two uber-talented women should consider returning to the desert for a dual encore next season. Together, they are irresistibly a knockout!
At the after-party, Loretta and Naturi hung out with fellow actor Jason Dirden and Loretta’s devoted hubby, Glenn Marshall.
