The TV DivaGal just finished reading The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith, and it practically has me drooling for the debut of The CW series in two weeks.

The story revolves around two brothers, Stefan and Damon, who’ve been immortal for quite some time.

One of them isn’t too happy about it.

“He hates being a vampire,” says Paul Wesley, who plays “good” brother Stefan.

“He has a conflict. He does not want to take human life. He just wants to experience life as a normal human being.”

So not the case for his big bro, Damon.

“This guy just has a blast. He may be a d*ck while he’s doing it, but he’s having a good time,” says Ian Somerhalder, who stars in the role.

Ian’s got major justification for his character’s inhuman behavior.

“We humans, we have this weird thing, if we see someone in a film or play or TV series who is having fun doing whatever they’re doing, we’re drawn to that person,” he explains. “That goes with the whole bad boy thing. Girls love the bad boy.”

The brothers have returned to their hometown after years of immortality for one reason.

“This girl we were completely in love with from our past has resurfaced, though it’s not clear yet whether it’s her or not her,” Ian explains.

“It’s like taking a fishing lure and you put it in the water, and it’s really attractive to the fish. We’re there, figuring out if this is the right bait or not.”

Stefan does have the edge in this love triangle, since his desire seems to be more, well, human.

“Stefan has anger and a temper, but passion and love and tenderness towards Elena,” Paul says.

“He’s a viciously violent creature, but he would die for her.”

Why do girls always fall for the guy who hates being a vampire? Oh yeah, probably because he won’t kill you!

The Vampire Diaries premieres on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
