Meet Marvel’s Moon Girl: Their First African-American Teen Superhero

We love seeing a Black girl superhero! Disney is bringing the comic, Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, to life! Marvel Lesson of the Day: Lunella Lafayette, a.k.a. Moon Girl, is Marvel’s first African-American teen girl superhero. She’s into science and technology and is one of the smartest characters in the Marvel universe. She’s on a mission is ready to protect her community on the Lower East Side of New York City. “There is a strong sense of being part of black, strong women… strength is coming out of her learning from her mother and grandmother,” says singer/actress Diamond White, who plays the role. “One person can make a difference.” That’s the message that stands out in this highly-anticipated animated series. Black’ish‘s Laurence Fishburne is producing this new animated series and voicing the role of the villainous Beyonder.

Doc McStuffins Is Ten!

Doc McStuffins, the first animation series featuring a lead black female character (she’s a doctor!) is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a musical special later this year. Disney Junior will also celebrate the show with a month-long celebration in March. Wednesday, March 23 will be a full day of Doc McStuffins‘ programming to celebrate the show’s first air date in 2012.

The Proud Family Is Getting Louder!

The Proud Family, which aired on Disney in the early aughts, is returning to Disney+ with brand new episodes. Look for The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, to debut February 23 with two premiere episodes. The Proud Family centers around Penny Proud and her adventures with her family, including her often embarrassing dad.

Time For Tea With Donald Faison

Donald Faison of Scrubs‘ fame is going down the rabbit hole, in the new Disney Jr. series Alice’s Wonderland Bakery. He plays Harry the March Hare. “I’m excited to sing for y’all, I never get that chance,” he declares. The series premieres Feb. 9, with a simulcast on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
