THE MAIN EVENT. Empire Season Two Premiere Experience – WATCH!
By Delaina Dixon | September 21, 2015 | Gals On The TownIt’s #MainEventMonday ΓÇô and the world is just two days away from the explosive return of Empire‘s season two premiere!
We were one of the lucky ones who joined Lucious, Cookie and the entire Lyon clan for the world premiere of the season opener at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
With tickets in hand, we were led to our seats in the main auditorium, just one row in front of Ne-Yo and CNN’s Don Lemon, who both appear on the series this season (of course we said hello!).
After a welcoming from Empire‘s creators and producers: Lee Daniels, Danny Strong, Ilene Chaiken and Brian Grazer, it was on to the program. And let me tell you ΓÇô our heads are still reeling over the excitement.
If you remember at the end of last season, Lucious was doing jailtime; Cookie was trying to become the queen of Empire Entertainment in a hostile takeover; Jamal was the new king of the family business. We can’t give much away ΓÇô but you’ll bug out over Lucious’ jail experience, flip over Jamal’s business acumen, swoon over Cookie’s outfits (one has a ton of fur, hee hee!) and gasp over Chris Rock‘s guest role ΓÇô so unexpected!
After the program, we were treated to a Q&A with the entire cast, who spoke about their different experiences with the show. Executive producer Lee Daniels couldn’t believe that FOX was “stupid enough” to put the show on air, but is eternally grateful they did. Jussie Smollett auditioned by signing Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines” acapella.
Gabourey Sidibe‘s role was supposed to be played by a young, white girl, but Lee told her he’d make it work (plus she’d be super dolled up in her role to show every size is beautiful!). Ta’Rhonda Jones, who plays Porsha, left her medical records job to take on her first TV role.
And then we got a royal treat as both performed hits from the show. Check out a clip below!
Empire, season two, premieres Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. on FOX.
