Renee Tenison, the first-ever African-American “Playmate of the Year, “is now art! Her image is part of the Rogue Playmates NFT series, a project that was created to further the cause of female artists and entrepreneurs in the male-dominated Crypto space. This unique project is allowing Playmates new control over their IP while providing unique opportunities to connect with fans.
Rogue Playmates was founded by entrepreneur and Playboy Playmate Victoria Fuller, who — along with a team of fellow Playmates — is breaking free of the tightly controlled Playboy brand and taking control of their IP and likenesses. There are 9,600 generative NFTs in the first round featuring Renee and others, each based on one of the 12 founding members of Rogue Playmates. a portion of NFT sales will be donated to nonprofits that advance womens’ causes and empowerment.
We caught up with Renee to find out why she wanted to be a part of this enterprising project, how she became the first Black Playmate of the Year back in 1990 and how she remembers Hugh Hefner, who’s become a more controversial figure since the release of Secrets of Playboy on A&E. In addition, she tells us about her transition to fashionista as the co-owner of Varga, clothing stores located in California.
The Rogue Playmates NFTs drop on March 30 with a Whitelist presale beginning March 28. Fans can gain access to the Whitelist, contests and Playmate hangouts by joining the Gatefold Discord. Initial sales will occur there, with secondary sales being made available on OpenSea.
