The last thing on my mind when I first watched the macabre movie Heathers was, ΓÇ£this should so be a musical!ΓÇ¥ It’s about a homicidal horny teenΓÇª Hmmm, come to think about it, thatΓÇÖs the perfect plot for a musical comedy! Heathers The Musical is currently playing in the Big Apple. Quick plot synopsis: Veronica is a high school outcast who is dying to be a part of the popular clique, a trio of mean girls called the Heathers. Thanks to VeronicaΓÇÖs uncanny skill to forge handwriting she gets her chance, and learns their heinous ways never cease, even when you are on the inside. At the same time, Veronica meets JD, a loner in a long trench coat who’s impossible to resist, even when he starts to off her friends. This stage show pays close homage to the screen version, as it should. The music is based on some the movieΓÇÖs most memorable lines, which sometimes leads to some corny lyrics, but it works. My pal and I both left the theater humming the tune of ΓÇ£Seventeen,” Heathers’ eerie love long. Big shout out to honorary DivaGal Alice Lee (pictured far right), who plays Heather Duke, the role originated by Shannen Doherty in the movie.
