GAL APPROVED! A Thug Life Cat Named Keanu; Life of The Congressman. Plus: Indie Beauty Expo L.A. Style!By The DivaGals | April 29, 2016 | Gal Approved
SEE. Keanu has a crazy premise that any cat lady will completely love: If you have a cute kitty it’s a ride-or-die relationship. Recently dumped by his girlfriend, slacker Rell (Jordan Peele) finds that his soul mate is a cute kitten that has escaped thug life. After a group of thugs steal the cat, Rell recruits his cousin Clarence (Keegan-Michael Key) to help him rescue him once again from that life. This is when it goes down and all hell breaks lose: the comedic duo is mistakenly identified as ruthless killers (channeling Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men). Insert as much pandemonium and laughs as you can here. Look for a memorable performance by Cheddar (Method Man) and cameos by Nia Long and Anna Ferris. It’s a fun, furry ride that you have to take! Keanu opens today.
SEE TOO. In our current uneasy political climate, it’s nice to have a film like The Congressman to show us how frustrating the role can be. Written by Robert J. Mrazek, a former congressman, it paints the poignant story of battered congressman Charlie Winship (played by #WBWD Treat Williams) who is getting it from his constituents for his “unpatriotic” ways, and dealing with a drawn-out divorce and political espionage against him. He escapes to the coastal waters of Maine to meet with the village of fishermen and women who have made their living there for centuries, but are now being threatened by commercial greed. On its sleepy shores, Charlie has his life catharsis, and Mr. Williams gives a monologue that should be mandatory listening for all of congress. The actor pointed out after a private screening The DivaGals attended that this isn’t a political film; it’s about a man going through transition. He also says that politicians should look at their role less as an “occupation” and more as a “service.” We’ll vote for that. Look for a cameo appearance from actress Miriam A. Hyman. The Congressman opens today.
