GAL APPROVED! See These Amazing Films This Weekend—Lift, The Book of Clarence And Mean Girls!By The DivaGals | January 12, 2024 | Entertainment, Gal Approved
Lift on Netflix
We have seen Kevin Hart in comedic action films before. But this is a different take. This time around, he’s not the butt of jokes; instead, Hart is the confident leading man with a lovely romantic interest. Hart plays Cyrus, the boss of a team of crafty, high-stakes art thieves. They are tasked with stealing a very large cargo from a plane, deemed a major life-or-death scenario. Lift is a big film with a huge $100 million budget, and the flight scenes will make you see why. We love that there is a sweet love story, minimal cursing, and a low body count; the PG rating makes it something the family can easily enjoy together. The last scene gives us the impression that this could be the start of a fun franchise, and we are here for it.
The Book of Clarence
Our TV DivaGal has been waiting for six months for the rest of the world to see The Book of Clarence, the first Black biblical epic from the minds of producer JAY-Z and director Jeymes Sameul. Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield) is an ordinary guy who wants to be remembered for an extraordinary life. Seeing the Messiah get his due, Clarence goes down his own path of spreading the word, only to discover what true faith means. Shot in Matera, Italy, one of the oldest cities in the world, the screen is filled with glorious shots of Black faces living, loving and losing the people they most love in Book of Clarence. While the film has comedic elements, it’s not a full-out comedy, as it touches on faith, classism, and racism. But girl, see this one for the “Knights of Eypgt” number alone!
