You may want to brush up on your multiverse timelines before you tune in for Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, the third stand-alone Ant-Man film. In the smallest nutshell, Scott Lang, Ant-Man, is living the high life with his gal Hope Van Dyne, The Wasp, and her parents Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, now safely returned from the Quantum Realm. But Lang’s ever-curious teenage daughter Cassie exposes them all to the Quantum Realm, where they find themselves in a strange new land with mysterious new creatures, including Kang the Conqueror, who we first met in the streaming series Loki. We quickly realize there’s a lot more strife going down in the Realm than Janet ever shared about her 30 years there, and only a family united can work it out.

This isn’t like the other Ant-Man movies that take place on Earth, so fans who are expecting to see a version like that may be disappointed. But we can give you one good reason to visit the Quantum Realm: Jonathan Majors. As Kang his voice is deep, his body is powerful and his gaze is mesmerizing. We’re stoked to see a Black actor taking on such a huge antagonist role in Marvelland. We’re also digging William Jackson Harper’s foray into the Marvel world as Quaz.

There’s lots of fun character makeup and CGI that create the unique and colorful inhabitants of the Quantum Realm, and some good zingers we’ve come to love from Ant-Man, but the many direct references to the Avengers movies and the streaming series like Loki and What If…? might confuse some casual Marvel viewers. However, die-hards will be gobbling up all the Marvel Easter eggs dropped in this action flick.
