Back to the Future: The Musical officially opened on Broadway last night! The DivaGals got a sneak peek late last month and all we can say is buckle up ’cause this is one rad ride!
Based on the famous 1985 movie starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and more, we once again join Marty McFly as he jumps into Doc’s time-machine DeLorean and goes back to the past, but this time it’s set to an original Broadway music track.
It’s a fun blast from the past with actors who truly embody their roles. Hugh Coles is British, but you could never tell by his spot-on rendition of Crispin Glover‘s George McFly, right down to his spastic body movements.
The show is predictable because we know the plot but you are gonna love “Doc” singing, dancing and bringing you into the jokes. We can’t get enough of Jelani Remy playing the two main Black characters from the original film, Mayor Goldie Wilson and band leader Marvin Berry. We give props to the original movie showcasing Black actors in prominent roles.
Our only quip? We really wish BTTF had a few more recognizable 80’s tunes to give it an interactive “sing-a-long” quality!
