WATCH. Black Men Bonding
Johnson, a new series on Bounce TV, is the dramedy chronicling four black men who have been friends since childhood, mainly because they all have the same last name. Now as adults, they are navigating their lives, careers and relationships, but they always have their boys to lean on when things get rough.
The DivaGals previewed the first two episodes and we were pleased to see this rare portrayal of friendship between black men on screen. That’s the fun times, the awkward moments and the heartfelt ones. It’s “what it’s like to be a black male in America, this brotherhood and kinship,” shares Cedric the Entertainer, who is producing the series.
Here’s a brief synopsis of the characters: Keith (Philip A. Smithey) is a sweet photographer who seems to fall for the wrong type of woman. Omar (Thomas Q. Jones) is recently divorced and fighting to spend more time with his son. Jarvis (Derrex Brady) is a real estate entrepreneur navigating an interracial marriage. And Greg — played by show creator Deji LaRay — is taking his sweet time to make it official with his girlfriend of one year.
The show uses a light hand to tell these stories, which is refreshing. No poverty porn here — the wardrobing is fabulous! We’re sure you’ll see a man in your life in one of these characters. Tune in to Johnson, premiering Sunday, Aug. 1 on Bounce TV.
