SEE. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl may not sound like a feel-good film (and in actuality, it ain’t one). But it is a moving portrayal of teen life today when faced with their own mortality. Earl (RJ Cyler) is besties with Greg whose mom makes him spend time with the dying girl Rachel, who has leukemia. Earl and Greg, who have been friends since early childhood, have been making parodies of some of the greatest films of all time. Now they have to make one of their own for Rachel. Says RJ, “Earl is the moral compass of the movie. He’s the middle man between the viewer and the characters. What the crowd is thinking Earl will say.” RJ explains that for Earl, “Rachel herself is a blessing on how she approaches and deals with this tragic disease. Even with this aliment, that’s not going to stop her creativity. That makes Earl very appreciative. He’s grateful to have her as a friend. She’s the one he and Greg needed in their lives to go to that next step, to just grow up and stop being little boys.” Heavy subject matter┬áfor the teen crowd.
