GAL APPROVED! Divalicious Review! Rachel Zegler Is The Fairest Of Them All In Snow White Remake

There’s one great metaphor in the live-action telling of Disney’s Snow White. It’s when the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) compares a diamond and a rose to mock her stepdaughter, the eponymous princess (Rachel Zegler). It easily demystifies why a human being would be so motivated to turn down kindness.
Most of this movie remains a baffling greenlight, like many Disney animation-to-live-action projects (or live-actionish like Mufasa), which have their varying bad-to-good qualities. But Zegler is undebatably gold standard casting. She balances the original sweetness of Snow White with updated headstrong fortitude. And despite what the Internet might estimate, the movie at least knows how to work Gadot to its advantage for stony villain campiness.
Admittedly, one of the uncanny factors I did acclimate to was the CGI dwarves, with a sweet dynamic between Snow and Dopey (Andrew Barth Feldman) being a sincere highlight of the film despite a questionable twist. There’s a 50-5o of cloying lines and funny quips.
The movie does address a few burning sentiments that have caused so much controversy since its inception: Snow White doing manual labor for little men; the idea of consent before kissing—that haircut! Considering that it was a modern-day retelling of the landmark animated 1937 version, Disney’s first animated 2-D theatrical picture, this retelling of Snow White does ok. Still, I felt it deserved a bit more. Yes, perhaps I’m being merciful than most about its existence.
But our Divalicious editor-in-chief did speak to a consumer, age 5, who loved the movie as she twirled in her Snow White gown. And that may be the only audience that matters.
