GAL APPROVED! Get Schooled In Rock! Plus Growing Up Hip Hop Premiere Party
By The DivaGals | December 11, 2015 | Gal ApprovedSEE. This week, the DivaGals went back to school on Broadway ΓÇô School of Rock that is! The 2003 movie has been turned into a musical, currently playing on the Great White Way in NYC! Quick recap: Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black in the movie) dreams of being a rocker, but needs to pay his rent. He pretends to be a substitute teacher in a prestigious boarding school, learns the kids have musical talent and turns them into his own band! What was heartfelt about the movie is how the kids, as they come out of their shells, make Dewey a better person. And it’s even more evident on stage when you watch these extremely talented young performers belt out #WBWD Andrew Lloyd Weber‘s soon-to-be classic hits “If Only You Would Listen” and the thrash-tastic “Stick It To The Man.” SPOILER ALERT (one you should read), the kids on stage are playing their instruments LIVE! Make sure you look for 11-year-old Bobbi MacKenzie, who plays Tomika and already has the voice of a Diva. And we’re still in awe of music prodigy Brandon Niederauer (Zack), who riffs on the electric guitar like nobody’s biz! It’s an emotional, feel good time to be had by kids and adults aike! Can’t make it to the show in NYC ΓÇô School of Rock goes on national tour in 2017 (and a student version hits school next March!). But don’t wait that long to hear the amazing music: Pick up the original cast CD!
WATCH. The DivaGals can’t wait for the premiere of Growing Up Hip Hop on WE tv next month, so much that we attended their premiere party at Haus in NYC last night! The docu-series chronicles the lives of the kids of the most legendary hip hop voices, including Dame Dash, Master P, Rev Run, Pepa┬áand James DeBarge. We’ve loved seeing Pepa walk the carpet with her equally gorgeous daughter Egypt Criss. And we spotted Lil Kim werking it in VIP — guess we’ll see her baby Royal Reign on the show in 2033! Growing Up Hip Hop premieres Jan. 7 on WE tv. See more pics from the party on our DivaGals FB page!
