CHIKU AWALI JERUSELEMA DANCE CHALLENGE (starting Dec. 5) Get the gift of dance from Chiku Awali African Dance, Arts & Culture for three Saturdays in December at 2 p.m. EST! Learn the Jeruselema Dance with Chiku’s instructors. The classes are free on Zoom.
Participants can make donations to the organization to support Chiku Awali’s mission to promote, encourage and project civic and cultural programs and activities in Rockland County, N.Y. that are representative of African dance and culture. Chiku Awali also provides community outreach programs to local libraries, nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. Get off the couch and on your feet for this fun experience! MI AMOR GALA (Dec. 5) The Luisa Diaz Foundation, which is devoted to raising money and awareness for individuals and organizations that are directly helping people in our communities, is once again supporting “Safe Passage” for their incredible work and support they provide to survivors of domestic violence and their families. The foundation’s “The Runway of Hope” will be a socially-distanced catwalk empowering survivors of domestic violence as they walk the runway in couture to raise money for other domestic violence survivors and other families in need due to COVID-19. SUPER HAPPY HEALTHY KIDS GALA (Dec. 16) This non-profit organization is designed to “Stamp Out Meanness and Bullying” and “Changing Lives With Kind Words And Kind Act™.” Super Happy Healthy Kids is hosting its 2020 Annual Black-Tie Gala on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.via Zoom. Hosted by our fearless EIC Delaina Dixon and political consultant and award-winning journalist Ti-Hua Chang, the gala will be a live wine tasting, presented by Maegan Kovatch from SquareWine & spirits (squarewine.com), in the comfort of your home. Three bottles of hand-selected New York State wines wine will be delivered directly to your home to participate in the night’s events. The gala’s honorees are New York Assembly Member Harvey Epstein, District Leader Daisy Paez and Fashion Institute of Technology professor & 12-year illustrator of USPS Lunar New Year Stamps Kam Mak.
