Jack Reacher, based on the novel One Shot in the Jack Reacher series, is the story of a retired military cop who mysteriously comes to town after a seemingly random sniper shooting in a crowded park. Star Tom Cruise and screenwriter/director Christopher McQuarrie cancelled the New York red carpet premiere of the film in light of the recent shootings in Newtown, Conn. Still, you can’t get around this plot point ΓÇô and it makes you actually uneasy as you watch the movie’s murders go down. Jack Reacher is on this case and determined to prove if the assumed guilty party is the one behind the tragic crimes. It’s a story full of twists and turns right up to the very end, and since you already know that Jack Reacher is a hero — the bad guys better get their comeuppance! Some people have questioned the casting of Tom in the lead role — the book says that Jack Reacher is 6’5 with blond hair and steely blue eyes — definitely not Tom’s signature look. Well here’s my take: Mr. Cruise may be tiny, but he’s mighty, and no one gives a “don’t mess with me” stare like he does. And his 50-year-old body is badass, which works for this DivaGal! Jack Reacher opens nationwide today.
