This weekend, Divas, the TV and movie gods are smiling down on us with a slate of must-see films that deliver the drama we crave, from Lifetime romances starring Naturi Naughton (pictured up top) to high-octane sci-fi. Clear your schedule, grab your best glass of bubbly and get ready to tune in!
Friends and Lovers
It’s time for a long-overdue date night with our favorite Naturi Naughton, as she headlines this two-part Lifetime movie event based on the New York Times bestselling novel by the late, great writer Eric Jerome Dickey. With a cast that is a feast for the eyes—including the phenomenal Simone Missick, Kendrick Sampson and RonReaco Lee—this is more than just a standard romance; it’s a contemporary drama about the complexities of Black love, friendship, betrayal, and the journey to forgiveness. The sheer star power and cultural resonance of a Black literature classic finally hitting the screen with this caliber of talent makes it a non-negotiable watch for every DivaGal.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t
It’s time for some truly dazzling and magical action as the Horsemen ride again in this all-new installment! Beyond the original crew, the film brilliantly introduces a new generation of illusionists, featuring the magnetic Justice Smith and the young, rising talent Ariana Greenblatt. This third round of the Horseman is a global spectacle of illusion and high-stakes drama, and we love seeing all the OGs return, especially a scene-stealing Morgan Freeman (as if we would expect himt ot do anything less!) back as mastermind Thaddeus Bradley. It’s this infusion of the past and present that truly keeps the NYSM magic alive. And yes, like always, these illusionists, magicians and mentalists take us across the globe for another adventurous sleight of hand we’re left scratching our brains to figure out!
The Running Man
It’s official, Divas: Glen Powell is an official WBWD, and he is bringing the heat as Ben Richards, the blue-collar everyman forced into a deadly reality game show in Edgar Wright’s new film adaptation, giving us plenty of chiseled, action-star goodness! This revamp is a bona fide diverse dream team, from the stellar Colman Domingo absolutely slaying as the show’s flashy, sinister host, Bobby Thompson, to the magnetic Jayme Lawson as Ben’s determined wife, Sheila Richards, who has her own fight for survival. With fierce talent like Daniel Ezra as a rebel voice in the underground and breakout star Katy O’Brian as a fellow runner, this film doesn’t just put diverse faces on screen—it puts them right in the middle of the high-stakes action and thrilling social commentary. Get ready for a stylish, heart-pounding dystopian road trip with a cast that is anything but monochrome!
Both films open in theaters on November 14.
