We can’t say enough good things about Rustin! It delivers African American social justice history, emphasizing the dynamic and brilliant Black voices that led the movement.
The biopic drama film, directed by George C. Wolfe, is based on a narrative by Julian Breece and a screenplay by Dustin Lance Black on the civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. It is based on the real-life experiences of Rustin, who assisted in the planning of the 1963 March on Washington with Martin Luther King Jr. and others. Colman Domingo plays the title role in the movie, and the actor is eloquent, showing the many layers of a gay Black man navigating life and love in difficult times. Produced by Higher Ground Productions, the movie also stars Chris Rock, Glynn Turman, Aml Ameen, CCH Pounder, Michael Potts, Jeffrey Wright and Audra McDonald.
Rustin proves that you can share history with less focus on brutality and a stronger emphasis on the human dynamic and relationships that powered the movement.

On Thursday, October 12, Netflix and Native Son hosted a toast at Hotel Chelsea in Manhattan to celebrate Rustin, which the DivaGals attended. Rustin served as the opening night film for the 35th Annual NewFest held at the SVA Theater in New York.
Before its Netflix streaming debut on November 17, Rustin is slated for distribution in a few cinemas on November 3.
