It’s time to travel to the multiverse! Marvel’s Dr. Strange In The Multiverse of Madness is here! Xochitl Gomez stars as America Chavez in this second installment of Dr. Strange battling evil elements. Out only in theaters.
Catch an all-star cast including Vincent Vermignon in HBOMax’s The Staircase. It’s a revealing look at the true-crime case of writer Michael Peterson (played by Colin Firth), who was accused of murdering his wife after she was found dead at the bottom of their family staircase in 2001.
Accolades Abound!
Black Public Media (BPM), a national nonprofit supporting the production and distribution of media about the global Black experience, has awarded Marlene McCurtis and Joy Silverman $150,000 for their documentary Wednesdays in Mississippi; Tamara Shogaolu $50,000 for 40 Acres, a multiplatform exploration of Black American farmers and their relationship with the land; and Spelman College senior and Milwaukee native Blanca Burch (pictured)the Nonso Christian Ugbode Fellowship in this year’s PitchBLACK competition… Seayoung Yim has won the 2022 Yale Drama Series Prize, one of the theater world’s most prestigious playwriting prizes, for her play Jar of Fat. In a fantastical fairytale world, two Korean American sisters are deemed too fat to fit in their family grave. Will the sisters’ close bond survive under the pressure of their community and fretful parents, who will spare no effort to get them tinier?
TV Returns We Can’t Wait For!
Netflix has released the premiere date for Cobra Kai Season 5! The karate-chopping series returns to the streaming platform with new episodes Sept. 9. Following the shocking results of the All Valley Tournament, Season 5 finds Terry Silver expanding the Cobra Kai empire and trying to make his “No Mercy” style of karate the only game in town. With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s caused, Daniel LaRusso must call on an old friend for help.
Ohhhh, boy! NBC has ordered the reboot of Quantum Leap to series, with star Raymond Lee. If you recall, it’s been 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett (#WBWD Scott Bakula) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished. Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine and the man who created it. Original Quantum Leap EP/co-narrator Deborah Pratt is back on the project.
