A hot new hotel with Emmy Rossum, visiting Russia — by way of Brooklyn, and the one product you’ve got to add to your makeup kit!
VISIT. There’s nothing Shameless about this. Showtime star Emmy Rossum helped kick off the grand opening of JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts’ first hotel, JW Marriott Chicago, in the Windy City of Illinois this week. Dressed oh-so-sweet in an Amanda Wakeley dress, paired with Rene Caovilla shoes and a Jimmy Choo clutch, Emmy chowed down a burger before hitting the stage to sing “Think of MeΓÇ¥ from the musical The Phantom of the Opera (she starred in the movie version). We’re pretty sure when you’re visiting Chicago, you’ll think of this hotel. After a $396 million dollar renovation, the JW Marriott Chicago boasts 610 rooms, 29 of them corner suites, two on site restaurants and a spa and fitness center, VALEO, run by Vince Vaughn’s mom. Just the thought of a V.V. spotting is enough to book a room! In honor of the opening, this weekend’s nightly rates start at $184. Find out more at www.jwmarriottchicago.com. (Destination Divas)
EXPERIENCE. Every once and a while its nice for this Luxe Gal to leave the comforts of her Manhattan home and venture into Brooklyn, N.Y. This past Tuesday the DivaGals celebrated International WomenΓÇÖs Day via an evening in Russia via Rasputin, located on Coney Island Ave. For the uninitiated, Rasputin is a supper club owned by Marina Levitis; Michael Levitis is the club’s director. The executive chef is Sandu Lovely, who received his culinary training in France. For one haute night we were treated to delicious Russian fare, including platters of smoked fish, potato salad, sesame tuna, roasted potatoes and mushrooms, sea bass, vodka and red wine. Between courses we enjoyed a runway fashion show, which highlighted emerging European designs and furs from Pologeorgis Fur and a performance by The Rasputin Ban. After dinner we took a quick spin on the dance floor. What can we say? To Russia with Love. We canΓÇÖt wait to go back to check out the club’s renovations, which are slated to be completed by the end of March. And yes, the restaurant is still open during the makeover. Your own trip to Russia — by way of Brooklyn — will set you back about $75. Extremely elegant at an incredible price. Learn more about it here. (Luxe Gal)
SHOP. Sports Gal discovers a product that keeps her shine-free while she’s working the court: SmashboxΓÇÖs Photo Finish Targeted Pore & Line Primer. Per Sephora.com‘s website it’s “an ultra-concentrated primer that works to erase fine lines, stubborn pores, and other complexion imperfectionsΓÇöall while absorbing shine for a flawless finish.ΓÇ¥ Oily skin has been the curse of my post-puberty life. I have tried many, many products that promise to eliminate and/or reduce shine and have been disappointed as many, many times. This product doesnΓÇÖt disappoint at all. Before using it, I would have to nearly re-apply my foundation and powder by lunchtime in order to combat the oiliness. Now I can just touch up with powder. The gel is a bit thick and it does feel sticky but you need so little of it that those characteristics shouldnΓÇÖt be a problem. It is also a bit pricey at $32, but used judiciously it will last a long time. If you have oily skin, treat yourself to this one indulgence. (Sports Gal)
