What I Wore: Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival Style Edition
By Delaina Dixon | August 22, 2025 | What I Wore
What’s a diva to do when she’s headed north for the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival? She plans outfits! Whether it’s a C-Suite luncheon, a gospel brunch or a late-night white party, a girl’s gotta look the part. For this trip, the style story’s all about packing pieces that could pull double duty and keep me looking fabulous and functional.

For the MVAAFF Women’s C-Suite Luncheon at Harbor View Hotel, I wore a sophisticated, monochrome ensemble. My look featured a strapless maxi-sheath paired with a short jacket and jeweled heels from the Indian brand Rocia, making for a quick, classy change straight from the airport.

I slipped into my favorite swing dress by Phillip Lim for an evening White Party. This is a simply elegant piece that’s unfussy but always chic. Paired with Amazon Essentials chunky suede heeled sandals meant I was ready for the ballroom and the tented dance floor outside.

An interview with DeVon Franklin got matchy-matchy as I slipped into this pinstriped linen suit from Old Navy. As a 5’0 woman, the key to this look is buying its petite version, which is scaled down in all the right places for a fabulous fit.

Yup, the jacket does double duty! Paired with a wide-legged denim jeans and a peplum top from Interplay Couture in Newton, New Jersey, it’s a look that can go from New England cool to nightclub chic in seconds.

For the EBONY x Uncle Nearest Gospel Brunch, I slipped into this pink-and-white floral fit-and-flare dress (with pockets!) by Eva Mendes. It was a hot day, but this dress felt breezy and cool. Poshmark is a great place to get a similar look and protect the planet.
From a chic maxi-sheath for a quick change to the perfect pinstripe suit, cop these fashion choices that are all about effortless elegance for non-stop eventing.
