SEE. As a little girl, TV DivaGal dreamed of being Annie. Now, a few decades later, I got the chance to see my dream played out on the big screen, courtesy of the Oscar nominee Quvenzhan├⌐ Wallis , who plays a new, modern-day version of our fave little orphan. She’s living in New York City and toiling away as a foster kid under a show-biz has-been Miss Hannigan (hilariously played by Cameron Diaz). Daddy Warbucks is now Jamie Foxx‘s Mr. Stacks (still a joke on being a man of big money ΓÇô literally!), who is running for mayor of NYC when he takes Annie in. If you know the musical, then you know how this story ends, and yes, it’s still a happy one. But traditionalists, be prepared. All the songs have been funktified with some serious R&B, rap and soul. That doesn’t take away from the cute little girl who hopes to “Maybe” find her parents, and discover that a family can form in the unlikeliest of places. Opens nationwide today.
