WATCH. Whitney, Lifetime’s biopic directed by Angela Bassett, concentrates on the one thing Whitney sang the most about: love. This is the love story between Whitney and her ex Bobby Brown. And Bassett mainly chooses to paint it as a pretty picture: how they met and fell in like at the Soul Train Awards; how Bobby said all the right things at all the right times; their steamy sex life. Yes, there is some retrospect into Whitney and Bobby’s substance abuse issues, as well as jealousy and infidelity. But in the end, we’d all like to think that Whitney and Bobby did have the greatest love of all, even if it was only for a brief moment. Kudos to R&B artist Deborah Cox, who nails Whitney’s voice on so many of her iconic hits, including “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” Whitney airs Saturday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
WATCH TOO. The Wedding Ringer opens this weekend, so you know you gotta go out and support one of our fave comedic actors Kevin Hart. What you’ll love? It’s a romantic comedy for guys, complete with gross out humor, a Farrelly brothers’ style assortment of odd men who make up the bridal party, a few smart women and couple of iconic football stars. Kevin plays Jimmy, a pay-for-play best man renting his best man/friend services to hapless friendless men. Surprisingly, it’s touching at times, and made us reminiscence of the film Hitch. The Wedding Ringer opens nationwide today.
WATCH THREE. Looking for something out of the ordinary this weekend? How abut 12 Monkeys, based on the film with the unusual name. It’s 2015, and a man from the future has traveled back to our time to stop a virus that has wiped out most of the population from his. We wouldn’t want the world to lose series star Demore Barnes, who’s pretty easy on the eyes! 12 Monkeys premieres Friday, Jan 16 at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
PEEK.We can’t wait to find out how far Jennifer Lopez goes to protect her family after her sexy indiscretion in her new movie The Boy Next Door.
