TV DivaGal, like the rest of the world, spent yesterday afternoon watching the beginning of the end, as The Oprah Winfrey Show kicked off its final season.
The talk show titan was definitely nostalgic, bringing out her fave guests like John Travolta, who’s been on the show 11 times, and flying in super fans who have been faithful to the show for the past 25 seasons. But we know for a fact that Oprah’s not losing sleep over her decision to call it quits.
“She’s home doing the hoola,” declared Gayle King, Oprah’s BFF, at the Essence Fierce & Fabulous Awards, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the magazine for black women.
Okay, maybe Oprah lost a little shut eye. “She tweeted that she couldn’t sleep the night before her season premiere because she was so excited about the upcoming day,” Gayle shared inside The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in midtown Manhattan. “But Oprah’s going on to something else.”
That something else? Just her own little TV network! “The game plan is that all the people who watch the Oprah show will follow over to OWN,” Gayle explained. “It’s a whole new way to get a dose of Oprah Winfrey.”
A change of location, yes, but still the same Oprah!
