Hello Divas! As we get deeper into isolation and social distancing, it may seem the only arm curls we’re doing is picking up our wine glasses! But we’re here to tell you that one thing you should keep going is your fitness routine.

One of our fave trainers Robert Brace is making sure you stay healthy and sane during this challenging time with his 28-Day Shred routine – and there is no better time to commit than now! Here’s his advice on why your workout is still so important – and how you can work out with him virtually!

Why is it so important to keep your workouts up during this time?

We’re isolated in quarantine and this whole situation has taken control out of hands. It increases our anxiety and stress. We need connection, control and calmness. We can control how we move our bodies. Once we start self-love and self-care, our serotonin goes up increasing our sense of joy. It’s clinically proven that increased endorphins help reduce stress and anxiety and keep us calmer. And we have this technical medium where we can work out together virtually which helps keeps us connected. That’s critically important right now. So keep moving and stay on your fitness and health journey.

What are the best type of workouts to do at home?

If you don’t have any equipment, your body weight is great for a workout. You can do squats, pushups, planks and a variety of core exercises. Even at home for your cardio, you can do intervals and Tabata, like jumping jacks vigorously for 20 seconds and rest for 10 — eight rounds of those will boost your metabolism and increase your cardio. There are many platforms you can get online right now. It’s a good time to be looking online for fitness professionals you might not have access to regularly.

What type of virtual classes are you offering?

We have our 28-day challenge workouts on @BlackGirlsRock IG Live four days a week at 11:30 a.m. And we have celebrity guests: June Ambrose is doing a Ballet Glutes workout at 4:10 p.m. this Wednesday.  It’s donation-based; 10 percent goes to the Black Girls Rock charity.
