Do you sometimes have those intimate questions, and don’t know where to find the answers? Your wishes have been granted with wisp! This new telehealth services company is breaking down walls so you can get the sexual and reproductive healthcare you need from the privacy of your home.

We spoke with Ahmad Bani, CEO of wisp, to find out a little more about the company and how it’s speaking to Black women and other women of color.

What is wisp?

The leading sexual and reproductive telehealth service on the market today, wisp is committed to providing specialized services to address the most intimate of issues, from bacterial vaginosis to herpes. Since its launch in 2018, wisp’s mission has always been to make sexual healthcare inclusive, cost-effective, and accessible—for everyone.

What inspired wisp to get started?

wisp was founded out of frustration of trying to get the care required for sexual health treatment. After an uncomfortable, expensive and overall defeating experience, we started on a journey to break down the barriers and build a company that would make getting sexual and reproductive healthcare simple and stress-free for all.

Now, whether patients need a quick prescription or a trusted over-the-counter remedy (either to pick up the same day at a nearby pharmacy or with free delivery in just a few days), wisp connects them with real-time providers and guides them to help safely navigate symptoms and get back on track, all from the comfort of their own homes.

This is pretty intimate healthcare!

It is! Due to the nature of the topic and the longstanding stigma surrounding sexual and reproductive health, we realized that these health concerns were going untreated. Consumers were uncomfortable and would rather let their conditions go ignored than try to find an appointment with a doctor in person. We knew we had to help patients take control of their health and empower them with solutions that are accessible, fast and discreet.

Why is it important to make this accessible and discreet for consumers?

Our priority is offering personalized, prescription or over-the-counter solutions across the most common sexual and reproductive health concerns because we believe that getting the right care means gaining access to the solutions you need with the respect you deserve.

Talking about sexual and reproductive care can be taboo in certain cultures. How is wisp helping to make it comfortable for all women to get the advice and care they need?

At the core, the focus of what we do at wisp is lead with education in order to teach consumers about sexual and reproductive health topics. Through our wisp blog and social channels, we take a down-to-earth approach to information sharing, no matter your awareness level. On Instagram and TikTok, in particular, we work closely with creators who are working to destigmatize traditionally “embarrassing” conditions like herpes and cold sores. On these platforms, we also like to lead with humor, to make these very common issues more relatable and not quite so serious. Our with Serena Kerrigan partnership is a great example of this. We’ve found an amazing group of creators who we work with regularly who are excited about our mission and are always finding new and creative ways to normalize the conversation around sexual and reproductive health.

Women of color, especially African American women, deal with issues like fibroids and a higher percentage rate of STDs. How is wisp reaching out and speaking to this community?

At its core, wisp’s mission is to increase access to sexual and reproductive healthcare for all people. That applies to communities like African-American women who we know have faced increased disparity and inequity when it comes to healthcare. To that end, wisp has partnered with SIECUS and NYBACP to increase education around sexual health and access to birth control.

Where can we start using wisp to improve our sexual and reproductive health?

wisp is available nationwide. Our medical staff and pharmacies are certified to practice in all 50 states. Patients looking to start their journey can visit to learn more or schedule a consultation with a medical specialist.
