Ghetto Gastro Share Best Holiday Dishes. Plus Festive Drinks With I.W. Harper Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Ghetto Gastro, the cooking collective created by Bronx natives Jon Gray, Pierre Serrao and Lester Walker, celebrated the release of their hot new cookbook, Black Power Kitchen, at an exclusive book signing inside New York City’s Harper House (once owned by #WBWD Channing Tatum!). All proceeds of the sales, along with a matching donation from I.W. Harper, benefitted the Bruckner Mott Haven Community Garden, to provide twice as many nourishing meals to families in the Bronx, one of the poorest congressional districts in the country.

The guys, who partnered with I.W. Harper Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey for this pop-up event, shared with the DivaGals their favorite rceipes for the holiday season!

“We love Black power waffles, cornbread crab and caviar,” declared Gray. “And when Christmas comes, you gotta have some nutcrackers for Christmas, it’s a big vibe. Also some wavy waffles.”

Walker recommended, “heavy vibes of family and community, with everyone bringing something to the pot… You got to have some red snapper with some (breadfruit) coucou. It’s thanks for giving, but we’re giving because we’re thankful”

Serrano summed it up. “The most important thing around the holidays is spending time with family, all of the things that matter the most in the world are those who are close,” he shares. “Also rest and relax a little bit, it’s all a part of the things that joy can bring.”

IW Harper Ritual created by Rosemary and Whiskey

The DivaGals chowed down on Ghetto Gastro’s delectable bites of Black Power Waffle and King Jaffe Jollof and tasted a glorious New York City-inspired cocktail, the Ritual, crafted by Atlanta-based creative cocktail duo, Whiskey and Rosemary. Featuring ingredients such as infused coffee, apple liqueur and I.W. Harper Cabernet Cask Reserve, it stood as an “embodiment of the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple” and tasted divine.
